When I was 52...I awoke around 5:30 am with sweaty palm and feet, some shortness of breath and a tight feeling in my chest. As a dentist, I was aware that these are classic symptoms for an MI, myocardial infarction. Of course I was in disbelief and it took me about 3-4 hours before I decided to drive myself to the emergency room. I was kept over night for observation. EKG was normal and no treponin was detected in my blood work. I Still had this tightness in my chest even with nitro glycerin.
I was scheduled for a cardiac catherization the next day and it was planned that I would most likely need several stents. The cath xrays showed 4 serious blockages and it was determined that I would need a quadruple By-pass. Three days later I had a triple by pass. I am now 62 and have had no problems since that fateful day years ago. I was asked by Boca Regional Medical Center to be a spokesman for the cardiac surgery program on a TV commercial which ran for 2 years! There are easier ways to get on TV!
